Each piece is designed with careful consideration and inspired by the colour trends currently being adopted in the market. Then, they are impeccably crafted with fine Italian leather, providing greater depth and show-stopping intrigue to a JennAir® Column Refrigeration.
We spoke with Brittni Pertijs, Lead Colour, Material & Finish Designer for JennAir to learn the design story that brings each of these eclectic pieces to life.
INTRODUCING FOUR INTOXICATING COLOURS: CARBON, COGNAC, CAVIAR & CROC LEATHER PANELS
Pertjis refers to the original four leather Cuts as “classic, rich and dark hues” that offer modern glamour and evoke comfort luxe. These were released in 2018 and will continue to be available.
DEFINITIVE BLACK CARBON
Carbon was the first of the original four designs and is classic for a reason. This black leather style features an embossed grain to fit any kitchen design.
PEWTER-TIPPED CAVIAR
A pebbly “stingray” pattern is embossed into the leather of rich black Caviar, creating a uniquely eye-catching look. This style also has a tipped texture, adding creative energy and a powerful element to modern decors. The texture is tipped with pewter-coloured ink to achieve a two-toned dynamic that plays with light.
BOLD GOLDEN COGNAC
Golden Cognac is the JennAir exclusive finish with a distinct amber tint and is laced with varying depths of two-toned colour. The golden amber tone, similar to that of Cognac, complements diverse styles. Choose high-gloss jewelry-inspired gold or silver handles to complete the style or if you prefer a rustic look and feel, opt for antler or wood.
ATTENTION-GRABBING BURGUNDY CROC
Croc is textured to mimic crocodile skin. This is achieved by rolling the dyed hide with a crocodile-skin pattern. Next, it’s coated with a secondary tone to craft a pattern with impressive depth. The splashy burgundy colour offers a provocative option for those looking for stand-out pieces.
THE APPEAL OF CUTS TOUCHABLE TEXTURES
JennAir brand’s founder, Lou Jenn, was always devoted to breaking the mould. He revolutionized the industry with the downdraft ventilation. Recently, the brand has refocused on mapping an exciting new frontier for the luxury industry by transforming the mundane into something celebratory. For instance, we turned the traditional stainless steel facade of the classic refrigerator into something warm and tactile and with an element of intrigue.
The process begins with a large and experienced team immersing themselves in the selection process. They perform an in-depth review of sociocultural and home trends and prevailing colour, material and finish to handpick colours that reflect the moods and quench an innate feeling a future owner has but may not be able to communicate.
Once a colour is selected, the team decides on leather from a collection of high-end Italian tanneries that often collaborate with haute fashion houses.
Each leather cuts panel is made from aniline leather, a natural and ultra-supple material grade derived from the highest-quality hides. The hides are dyed through to produce a richness and longevity of colour and then twice finished for cleanability.
CUTS: WHERE WILL IT GO NEXT?
Pertij’s team is already conceiving new possibilities for the future of the Cuts Collection.
Pertijs states, “We’re definitely looking at other possibilities, of materials or patterns.” and continues, “I want these designs to be inspirational for people in the home, and get them thinking about their space, and coming up with new ideas for their interior design.”
Whatever the JennAir brand has in store, it promises to be provocative and on-trend.
